Mt Norris Asbestos Issues - Resolved
January 15, 2010
Scout Leaders and Families:
I am very pleased to report the successful conclusion of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) project at the Mount Norris Scout Reservation. The council’s top priority has always been the safety and well-being of our participants, their families and our staff. For that reason the Executive Board of the Green Mountain Council gave its full cooperation for the testing and subsequent cleaning that has taken place. The decision to close the camp for the 2009 season and to ask the EPA to help clean the camp, while painful, was necessary to ensure its ongoing safe use.
We want you to know that together with the EPA we have completed the process, with the exception of repaving the parking lot which will be accomplished this spring. The effectiveness of the cleanup work has been confirmed by successful re-testing. Based on these results, we are pleased to announce that the camp re-opened the week of December 15th for winter camping. Also, summer camp will open as scheduled beginning the week of June 21st.
On behalf of our members, volunteers and professional staff, the Green Mountain Council Executive Board would like to thank the EPA for their efforts in helping us ensure the well being of our participants. For your additional information, attached is a detailed letter from the EPA explaining the process.
We will keep you updated should there be additional information relative to the health and safety of those who enjoy Mount Norris Scout Reservation. If you have any questions or thoughts to share please contact the Council Service Center at (802) 244-5189 or visit www.scoutingvermont.org

Thank you for all that you do to support Scouting in Vermont.
Yours in Scouting,
Richard Kruger
Council President
